Just offshore, the seafloor drops more than 1,500 metres into the open Atlantic, creating a rare convergence of volcanic island and deep ocean. This abrupt descent supports a rare phenomenon, a resident population of sperm whales living year-round in coastal waters, augmented seasonally by migrating bulls arriving from the North Atlantic.
This expedition unfolds between sea and land. Days begin offshore, aboard a yacht guided by local experts, before entering the water to share quiet, respectful encounters with families of sperm whales as they surface, rest, and communicate.
